Getting Guidance

Sometimes, guidance can be misleading.  It is difficult to find a financial advisor for college, but it could be a wise investment because of how important a decision college is for a family.  Other groups, like a private wealth management group, could also help with college financing and 529 plans, and by using some sort of guidance, the college planning process could be much easier.  The most important thing to recognize is that the guidance you receive from school counselors ultimately should not be the only advice you take:

“It’s no secret that public high school counselors handle a heavy workload. At the bare minimum, the counselor may be responsible for 300-400 students.

While their advice is invaluable, you should not take it too personally.

High school counselor’s advice should remain regarded as just that, advice. Nothing should be taken too personally because the counselor does not have the power or time to handle each student on a case-by-case basis.”

Understanding this situation will allow you to make the best decision regarding financing for college, and it ultimately could lead to a decision regarding how much or how little is spent on a college education.  The decision between attending a public or private institution also could be solved with help from an outside advisor.  It is important to consider a Certified financial planner in New Jersey or a Philadelphia financial planner, if you live in those areas, or from anywhere in the country, when making the college decision.
